GWEMBE CDF PROJECTS COMMISSIONED

Gwembe Town Council has commissioned three infrastructure projects at Halumamba Community School at a cost of over K1.9 million using the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

The project includes a 1×3 classroom block with 60 desks, a water reticulation system, and a modern ablution block.

Speaking at the event, Gwembe Member of Parliament Tyson Simuzingili said the new infrastructure represents part of the government’s continued commitment to improving education infrastructure in rural and underserved areas.

Mr Simuzingili added that the facilities will reduce the long distance of about 10 kilometres that learners previously covered to access the nearest school.

He said the development aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to improve learning conditions in schools and reduce congestion in classrooms.

“Education is the backbone of national development and government remains committed to ensuring that children in Gwembe have access to decent learning facilities just like those in urban areas.

We thank CDF for this development; it is an investment in the future of our children and our economy,” Mr Simuzingili said.

And He urged the people of Gwembe through their Ward Development Committees (WDCs), to apply for upgrading of other existing community Schools through CDF.

Gwembe District Commissioner Killion Chikandula reaffirmed the government’s resolve to improve social services in the district, stating that the inclusion of water and sanitation facilities in schools, and health infrastructure is critical for learners.

“According to the pronouncement by President Hakainde Hichilema that schools and Health facilities being constructed under CDF should meet the standards of having a water reticulation system and an ablution block with running water has now been achieved at Halumamba primary school,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gwembe Council Chairperson Collet Ndlovu said the local authority would continue to work closely with cooperating partners to address infrastructure challenges in schools and health facilities across the district.

And District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Mumbe Simusokwe, described the project as a major boost to education delivery in the area, noting that Halumamba Primary School had for years struggled with inadequate classroom space and limited water and sanitation facilities.

“This infrastructure will greatly enhance effective teaching and learning. Reduced pupil-to-classroom ratios and improved sanitation will contribute to better academic performance and learner well-being,” She said.
