The Department of Social Welfare in Mungwi District has distributed 833 bicycles and 600 pairs of gumboots to Community Welfare Assistance Committees (CWACs) across the district.
Mungwi District Social Welfare Officer Obed Mulenga says the items are meant to improve service delivery among CWAC members to the community.
Mr Mulenga applauded the committee members for playing a vital role in supporting vulnerable members in society and strengthening social welfare interventions.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mulenga said this during the handover of the bicycles and gumboots to the committee in Mungwi District.
“The government has procured these items for you because it knows the important role you play in communities. Maintain the bicycles properly, and ensure they are used exclusively for community service,” he said.
Kalemba Community Welfare Assistant Committee Secretary Ashard Chileshe thanked the government, stating that the bicycles and boots would greatly improve the mobility of committee members.
And Namponda Community Welfare Assistant Committee Treasurer Lizzy Mulenga stated that some CWACs are too vast, and the members had been experiencing challenges to cover all areas on foot.
