Central Province Education Officer (PEO) Mambe Hamududu has advised primary school teachers not to panic over anticipated transfers, following the phasing out of Grade 9 examinations under the new curriculum.
Mrs Hamududu has explained that several subjects, among them Religious and Civic Education have been retained under the new curriculum, ensuring that primary school teachers are not rendered redundant.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mrs Hamududu said teachers will be redeployed to teach Forms 1 and 2, according to where their services are needed.
“If a school needs a science teacher, we will deploy them where a science teacher is required,” Mrs Hamududu said.
She added that some teachers who were teaching science have already been redeployed to high schools to teach biology, physics, and chemistry.
Mrs Hamududu emphasized that the Ministry of Education will continue with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to align teachers with the new curriculum and ensure that children get the best.
The PEO urged teachers to remain calm and focus on their work, as their services are essential to the implementation of the new curriculum.
