Schools in Solwezi district have been urged to utilise services offered by the library for improved learner performance.
Northwestern Provincial Librarian Constance Miyoba told ZANIS in Solwezi yesterday that the library is open to working with schools in areas they lack and make sure learners have access to material and facilities lacking in their schools.
Ms Miyoba mentioned that the library has put in efforts to contribute to improved academic performance of learners in the district and province at large.
She said that the computers, Internet facility, and books are not only meant for walk-in residents but also for schools as well.
“We have all that the schools need in terms of support, we have the books, and we have the infrastructure in terms of computers, so for those schools that do not have enough computers they can arrange a class and we can give them space,” she said.
She added that the library is mandated to provide resources such as books, stressing that schools with libraries are at liberty to request material suitable for their learners.
And Assistant librarian Bridget Kajoba has called on parents to encourage their children to visit the library.
She says access to the facility is free for all learners from grade one to 12.
“Let parents bring their children here it is free of charge, we do different kind of activities for children and the they can have access to any kind of books be it educational or storybooks. They can also do their homework from here and we also help those who are behind in terms of reading,” she said.
Meanwhile, some pupils from Kikombe Primary School who took part in the Reading Aloud activities hosted by the library said that they are learning a lot of things that are helpful towards their school performance.
