CHIZONGWE STEM SCHOOL IN NEED OF SUPPORT

Authorities at Chizongwe STEM Secondary School in Eastern Province are calling for support in addressing challenges being faced at the school.

School Deputy Headteacher Edward Musonda cited erratic water supply and dilapidated infrastructure as some of the challenges the school is facing.

ZANIS reports that Mr Musonda revealed that the school has been receiving support from partners like the school alumni but that there is need for more intervention.

“Like I mentioned, this school was established in 1955, and so seventy years and plus of the school’s existence means that the infrastructure at this school begs for serious attention,” he said.

He elaborated that the structures at the school, including classrooms and ablution blocks, were roofed with asbestos, which need to be replaced with iron sheets.

“As you may be aware, asbestos is no longer being produced, therefore, when there is a calamity and in turn the asbestos is damaged, it becomes hard to just work on the affected section,” he narrated.

Mr Musonda further commended the School Alumni Association for the continued support in alleviating some of the challenges being faced at the school.

He, however, indicated that there was a need to ensure that more interventions are put in place to address the plight of both learners and teachers.

The Deputy Headteacher added that despite these challenges, the school has continued to be one of the top-performing schools in the region; hence, the need to better the conditions.
