MINISTRY of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has emphasized the need for the media in the country to adhere to strict ethical guidelines.
Mr Kawana says there is need for media houses to strictly adhere to ethical guidelines saying this year being an election year, some people become excited and may give alarming information which may divide the nation.
Mr Kawana who is in Northern Province to appreciate the efforts and challenges the media was facing said this when he paid a courtesy call on Northern Provincial Administration.
He observed that media houses have the responsibility to ensure that they operated within their guidelines and give information that was factual.
“I want to implore the media in the Northern region to ensure that they adhere to strict ethical rules, this is important especially that we are in an election year, the media to be factual as they give out information to the public,” Mr Kawana said.
And Kasama District Commissioner Annie Paul who represented acting Northern Province Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri said the media has a vital role to play of disseminating accurate information to the masses.
