KAWAMBWA DC ASSURES FLOOD VICTIMS

A traditional leader in Kawambwa District has called on the government to provide relief to families affected by floods in Chitondo Kapemfu area in Chief Munkanta’s chiefdom.

Sub-Chief Chitondo explains that heavy and continuous rain being experienced in the area has caused widespread flooding, leaving many homes submerged.

ZANIS reports that Sub-Chief Chitondo disclosed that the situation has forced several families to leave their houses and seek shelter in safer places.

The traditional leader observed that consequently affected families are now facing many challenges, including lack of shelter, food, sanitation, and safe drinking water.

” This situation in my area is worrying, especially for women, children and the elderly. I’m appealing to the government and other well-wishers to urgently provide relief items such as food, tents, and clean water to help the displaced families,” Sub-Chief Chitondo said.

Meanwhile, District Commissioner, Godfrey Chilambwe said government is aware of the flooding situation in the area, adding that arrangements to respond to the problem have advanced.

Mr Chilambwe said the local authority is working on measures to assist the affected families.

The DC has also advised people living in flood-prone areas, such as Kuyumba Village and nearby communities, to follow safety guidelines to avoid accidents during the period of heavy rains.
