The Government through the Ministry of Education has released 23 million Kwacha meant to improve sanitation conditions at the University of Zambia (UNZA).
Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kelvin Mambwe disclosed this when he addressed UNZA students at the campus this evening.
Dr Mambwe told the students that the release of the money was a directive from President Hakainde Hichilema.
“The President has directed the Ministry of Education to release K23 Million which has been released today,” he said.
He stressed that the money is purely meant to address sanitary conditions at the institutions.
Dr Mambwe further highlighted that the released money is also meant to improve water reticulation at the campus.
“The money that has been released today is to ensure that we bring sanity and improve the sanitation situation here, “he said.
Dr Mambwe assured the students that with the release of the funds, work will immediately improve the sanitary conditions at the University.
“It’s a matter of time, you’ll be seeing serious work going on to ensure that the situation is improved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Mambwe said in the interim, the government will provide mobile toilets around the campus.
He indicated that the mobile toilets will be delivered tomorrow, Thursday, April 2, 2026.
