Lusaka, June 12, 2025, ZANIS—The Zambia United Freedom Fighters Association has appealed for calm, unity and love as the country mourns the late former 6th Republican President, Edgar Lungu.

In a statement issued to ZANIS by the Zambia United Freedom Fighters Association, the association has called for peace in the country stating that nothing worthwhile is ever achieved through chaos.

The statement stated that too many conflicting statements from different people have been made which is dividing the country rather than uniting the nation.

“We the living founders of this nation are in pain, and we are heartbroken to lose the sixth president of our country. In that regard, we feel unhappy that his death should bring divisions in our country rather than unite us, as it had been when we buried other presidents,” the statement added.

The association has further thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for according to the late president a seven-day mourning period and has further advised political parties to resolve their differences.

The Association also conveyed its deepest condolences, to the bereaved family, and the nation at large.

Former President Edgar Lungu died last week on Thursday in South Africa.
