The Sinda Town Council has signed a contract with One Power Lesotho (PTY) Limited, that will see the construction of 13 Mini Solar Grids in listed villages around the district.
The Local Authority notes that the Mini Solar Grids are expected to strengthen the growing developmental portfolio of projects, aimed at improving livelihoods and driving the district’s growth.
Speaking during the contract signing ceremony in Sinda, Council Secretary Mary Chongo expressed confidence that the partnership will bring meaningful improvements to the lives of residents in rural parts of Sinda district.
Ms. Chongo said the development will contribute inclusivity in the developmental agenda, as it will see villages not connected to the national grid also receive a share of opportunities through solar energy.
She encouraged the company to ensure the employment of local people during project implementation is prioritised, as it will enhance community participation and empowerment.
Meanwhile, PTY Limited Eastern Province Team Lead Elias Lungu, has revealed that the 13 installations are out of the 24 solar mini grids set to be established in Sinda and Petauke Districts.
Mr Lungu said that the mini grids will be constructed in marginalised rural communities, in order to connect such areas that have long remained underserved by conventional energy infrastructure.
Luamba, Kambalimbali, Kalimba, Makina, Mlela, Kambangu, Kampala and Chipungu Primary Schools are among the sites earmarked for the Mini Solar Grid Project implementation.
