GOVT BOOSTS FUNDING FOR KANYAMA BREEDING CENTRE

Government has increased the budgetary allocation to Kanyama cattle breeding centre in Mwinilunga District of Northwestern Province, from K600,000 to K2.9 million to boost livestock production in 2026.

The increased funding will enable the centre to improve its operations and address challenges faced since its inception in 2013, including electrification and construction of a loading bay.

The development was revealed when a Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) team led by Assistant Director Kalonde Mutuna visited the centre on a fact-finding mission to assess its performance and identify solutions that will contribute to the national target of K1 billion worth of cattle exports in 2026.

And Chief Kanyama of the Lunda-speaking people of Mwinilunga District thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for including the centre’s workers on the government payroll, stating that the move will boost morale.

The traditional leader described the increased allocation as a step in the right direction, noting that it will help improve operations and address many of the challenges the centre has been facing.
