An unidentified man has died following a fatal road accident in Katete District, Eastern Province.

Confirming the development to ZANIS, Eastern Province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba disclosed that the incident occurred yesterday July 20th, 2025 around 20:30 hours near New Malo gardens.

Mr Mweemba explained that the victim was hit by a motor vehicle when he was moving from west to east and that he sustained fatal head injuries.

He added that the victim died on the spot and his body has been deposited to St. Francis Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.

Mr Mweemba further explained that also involved was a motorist identified as Felix Zulu aged 23 of Katete’s Chibolya Compound who escaped unhurt.

“The driver of a hino ranger escaped unhurt but the vehicle had its left side mirror and door glass broken”, he said.

He said the accident occurred when Zulu failed to keep to his near side and in the process, hit the pedestrian who was walking on the pedestrian pathway.

The police commissioner revealed that the involved motor vehicle has been impounded and parked at Katete stores police post.
