President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the people of Western Province that government will construct the long-awaited King Lewanika University as part of efforts aimed at expanding access to higher education and promoting skills development in the region.

President Hichilema said the establishment of the university will provide local learners with an opportunity to pursue tertiary education closer to home, thereby reducing the financial burden associated with travelling to other provinces for studies.

The Head of State noted that the university project is expected to contribute significantly to the social and economic development of Western Province by producing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and entrepreneurship.

President Hichilema said government remains committed to ensuring that every province has adequate higher learning institutions in order to promote equitable access to quality education across the country.
