Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Permanent Secretary, Albert Malama, says government recognises the important role that the construction industry plays as an engine of national development.

Prof. Malama noted that the construction industry is a very important component of Zambia’s national development as it creates job opportunities during construction activities.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Director for Planning, Monitoring and Research Richard Banda, during the media launch of the 2026 Construction Expo (ConExpo 2026), which will take place on 19 and 20 June, 2026, in Lusaka, under the theme, “Building Tomorrow,  Together.”

Prof. Malama pointed out that the Expo, which is happening for the fourth time, provides an opportunity for engagement with stakeholders government will continue supporting the industry to ensure that economic activities can take place as construction is happening.

“We are cognizant of the challenges that are there in this sector, and as government, we are open to suggestions of reforms that can continue to support the growth of the industry,” he added.

And Board Chairperson for the ConExpo, Lottie Lungu said over 100 exhibitors have confirmed participation in this year’s expo saying the number keeps growing steadily.
