Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has achieved 51 percent performance in the assessment of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports against its annual target, indicating continued growth in economic investment and sustainable development initiatives across the country.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS by ZEMA Acting Manager for Corporate Affairs, Mercy Zulu.
She stated that the Agency had by April 30, 2026 considered 613 EIA reports out of the targeted 1,200 for the year.
She explained that the approved projects cut across key sectors of the economy, with mining and mineral processing accounting for the highest number at 268 projects.
Ms Zulu noted that other approved projects include 95 in manufacturing and processing, 100 in the energy sector, 98 in infrastructural development, 15 in agriculture and forestry.
She also highlighted that the approvals demonstrate ZEMA’s commitment to facilitating investment while ensuring environmental sustainability and compliance with national regulations.
