ECZ LAUNCHES TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR DISTRICT ELECTORAL AND RETURNING OFFICERS

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis has officially launched a training workshop for district electoral officers and returning officers, aimed at equipping them with knowledge and skills to manage the August 2026 general elections.

Speaking during the launch, Ms Zaloumis has stressed the importance for electoral officers to effectively manage the upcoming nomination exercise and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.

ZANIS reports that Ms Zaloumis explained that the nomination stage is a cornerstone of the electoral process, as it determines the eligibility of candidates and sets the foundation for credible elections.

She noted that any errors or inconsistencies at this stage could undermine the integrity of the entire electoral process.

She further urged participants to pay close attention to the legal and procedural requirements governing nominations, adding that transparency, accuracy, and professionalism must guide their work.

She has since appealed to the officers undergoing training to uphold high standards of integrity and impartiality as they carry out their duties, stating that public confidence in elections largely depends on how well electoral officers execute their responsibilities.

Ms Zaloumis has reaffirmed that ECZ will continue to prioritize capacity building among its staff as part of efforts to strengthen Zambia’s electoral system and ensure the delivery of free, fair and credible elections.
