ZESCO FC CONFIRMS RECEIVING COMMUNICATION FROM ZPL

ZESCO United Football Club has confirmed receiving communication from the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) regarding its suspension from league activities, a move the club says is irregular and not in line with established procedures.

In a press statement issued to ZANIS by Acting Chief Executive Officer James Ngoma, the club said the correspondence, dated February 12, 2025, was only received on April 2, 2026, and stems from an ongoing dispute over its exclusion from the ABSA Cup.

According to the statement, ZESCO United had qualified for the tournament after defeating Zanaco Football Club in a qualifying match. However, the club alleges that the rules governing qualification were later changed and applied in a way that led to its removal from the competition.

The club further revealed that it engaged the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), requesting the convening of an Arbitration Tribunal to resolve the matter. It says both FAZ and the ZPL declined, describing the issue as administrative.

Ngoma stated that the club then sought intervention from the High Court to compel FAZ to facilitate arbitration. The court has since directed FAZ to convene the Arbitration Tribunal to hear the dispute involving the club, FAZ, and the ZPL.

He emphasized that the club remains committed to fairness, integrity, and due process, maintaining that the suspension does not follow proper disciplinary channels.

ZESCO United has since called on its supporters and stakeholders to remain calm and united as it continues to pursue a lawful resolution to the matter.
