MAAMBA ENERGY BOOSTS POWER OUTPUT

MAAMBA Energy Limited is scaling up electricity generation and employment as it advances expansion works aimed at strengthening Zambia’s energy security.

Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Director Licensing Naomi Fulaza said during a tour of the Maamba coal-fired plant, that the development aligns with the government’s policy direction to diversify the country’s energy mix.

Ms Fulaza stated that Zambia is promoting investment by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to reduce reliance on hydro power and enhance supply through alternative sources of energy such as coal and solar.

She noted that Maamba Energy is currently contributing 300 megawatts to the national grid from its phase one coal-fired power plant.

Ms. Fulaza added that the ongoing phase two project will add another 300 megawatts, raising the plant’s total installed capacity to 600 megawatts.

Meanwhile, Maamba Energy Limited Chief Executive Officer Cyrus Minwalla said the company is on course to increase its overall power output this year.
