MAZABUKA DC WELCOMES REVIEW OF DROUGHT RELIEF PROGRAMS

MAZABUKA District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba has welcomed the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) leading a consortium of research partners who are in the district to assess the effectiveness of the social intervention programs which were implemented by the government during the 2024 drought.

CSPR Executive Director Isabel Mukelabai who was represented by Programs Manager, Tommy Singongi says the research project dubbed ‘Systems strengthening for evidence based advocacy for crisis preparedness, recovery and resilience building’ will help the country to transition from a reactive humanitarian response model to a proactive adaptive and locally owned system of resilience building.

Ms  Mukelabai noted that while the government responded to the drought by introducing a K41 billion supplementary budget which birthed the cash for work, emergency social cash transfer, and the wetlands food security pack programs, the response came more than a month after the drought had taken hold.

“It is this gap between crisis onset and effective response that lies at the heart of the research project,” she said.
