Vice President Mutale Nalumango has lead mourners to the final resting place of former Cabinet Minister Mutumba Bull who served in the United National Independence Party (UNIP) government and died on February 13, 2026 in Lusaka.
Dr Bull who was also a Member of Parliament for Nalolo Constituency in Western Province in 1973 held several senior ministerial portfolios, including Minister of Health from 1973 to 1976, Minister of Commerce from 1976 to 1977,
He was also Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Services between 1978 and 1979, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 1980 to 1981, and Minister of State for Civil Service from 1982 to 1983.
ZANIS reports that speaking at the Memorial Park, University of Zambia (UNZA) Development Studies Lecture Nalukui Milapo said the late Dr Bull would be remembered as a legend whose contributions to academia and national development remains unmatched.
Dr Milapo revealed that before her formal appointment, Dr Bull had already begun serving the university as a part-time lecturer while studying at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
She highlighted Dr Bull’s distinguished public service, noting that the late academic made significant contributions to the country’s growth.
Zambia United National Freedom Fighters Association National Treasure Betty Chilunga has described the late former Cabinet Minister Dr Mutumba as a national treasure whose lifelong service to the country will remain deeply cherished.
Ms Chilunga urged Zambian youths to cultivate a strong reading culture, noting with concern that the habit of serious reading appears to be declining among many young people today.
“I hope the Zambian youths can emulate that culture of reading, which is unfortunately lacking in our generation,” she said.
She further called on the family and the youths to draw inspiration from Dr Bull’s life of hard work, discipline, and service.
Meanwhile, Keith Munyama the son in-law to the late Cabinet Minister Dr Bull conveyed special appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema, for according Dr Bull an official state funeral in recognition of her distinguished service to national development.
“We are extremely grateful to President Hakainde Hichilema for granting our dear mother and grandmother an official state funeral,” he said.
