Petauke, 10 June 2025, ZANIS—-Headman Kamiza of Petauke District has appreciated the government’s commitment to empowering its people economically while simultaneously alleviating poverty.
Headman Kamiza Blackson Tembo said this in light of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) purchasing price for the maize set at K340 per 50 Kilogram (Kg) bag.
The traditional leader indicated that the buying price of the commodity was fair as it provided a win-win situation for both the government and the people.
“The price is fair and it will help us have something financially and when we don’t have the commodity in our homes, we are assured that we can still run back to the government and buy the maize,” he said.
The Headman cited the 2023/2024 hunger situation that most parts of the country experienced, where the public bought the maize from FRA.
He said if the community does not sell to the FRA they would not have anywhere to run to if another hunger situation affected the country.
“We are happy with the government because it has helped us like what happened during the hunger we saw that the government still provided. It did not just provide maize through FRA, but also relief maize, and other remedial measures like the Cash for Work program that helped many to at least buy a bag of maize or mealie meal,” he said.
