The Ng’oni Royal Establishment is set to kick off its Nc’wala traditional ceremony this year, with the historic solemn remembrance event in honor of King Zwangendaba, the founder of the Ngoni Chiefdom in Zambia whose remains were buried in Nakonde District in Muchinga Province, for over a century.
ZANIS reports that the Nachipeta Zwangendaba Organising Committee in Nakonde district has revealed that preparations for the event have heightened with about 90 percent of the works done in readiness for the event.
Committee Vice Chairperson, Panji Musoni revealed that rehabilitation of the access road to the grave site has been done with a car park created, adding that some maintenance work at the grave site has also been done in readiness for the King Zwangendaba memorial event scheduled to be held on 18 February, 2026.
Mr Musoni said the highlighted works have been done in collaboration with various stakeholders such as the local authority among others.
He said this yesterday in an interview with Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde district.
Meanwhile, Clara Namfukwe, the Vice Secretary of the Nachipeta Zwangendaba Organising Committee said about 99 percent of preparatory works have been done.
Ms Namfukwe said stakeholders and partners are welcome to come on board as preparations for the memorial event heightens, adding that it is not too late for those who would desire to support the King Zwangendaba memorial event.
She has called on the business community to be ready and take advantage of the once in a lifetime event for their businesses to thrive, as people from across the country and other nations will visit Nakonde for the memorial event.
“We are extending invitations to stakeholders, organisations, and businesses to join forces and make this event unforgettable because we are not just celebrating history but also lifting Nakonde district in terms of development,” she said
And Nakonde District Commissioner, Marvelous Sikapizye has commended the Ngoni Royal Establishment for honoring King Zwangendaba with the first ever memorial event, applauding the Ngoni people for doing the right thing by revisiting part of their history in Nakonde district.
Mr Sikapizye further said that King Zwangendaba deserves to be remembered for the legacy he has left behind for the Ngoni people, adding that the remembrance event in his honor will strengthen the Ngoni culture and unify people from diverse cultures.
Meanwhile, Chiefteness Waitwika of the Namwanga people in whose Chiefdom lays the remains of King Zwangendaba has appreciated the significance of honoring King Zwangendaba’s legacy by the Ngoni people.
The Traditional Leader has commended the current Paramount Chief Mpezeni for encompassing the first solemn remembrance event in honor of King Zwangendaba as part of the Nc’wala traditional ceremony, adding that the remembrance event is a befitting tribute to the great Ngoni leader.
Chiefteness Waitwika has since welcomed the Ngoni People to the Namwanga land as they celebrate the life of the ancient fallen King Zwangendaba.
The Chieftainess adds that the resting of Zwangendaba in the Namwanga land has created bilateral ties between the Ngoni Royal Establishment and her Chiefdom.
The Ngoni people based in Nakonde district are elated with the upcoming King Zwangendaba memorial event and have called on people from within and outside Zambia to come in numbers and celebrate the first remembrance of King Zwangendaba.
