DMMU DELIVERS 600 RELIEF FOOD IN KABOMPO

Kabompo District has received 600 x 50 kilograms bags of rice from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to be distributed to vulnerable communities across the district aimed at enhancing household food security among affected families.

Kabompo District Commissioner Hurbert Chinyanga confirmed the development to ZANIS today, saying the rice will be shared with households identified as vulnerable through a recent assessment exercise conducted by the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC).

Mr Chinyanga who also serves as Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee, explained that the government carried out a vulnerability assessment to determine households facing food insecurity in the district.

He stated that the beneficiaries were identified across all affected areas in Kabompo ensuring that the distribution targets those most in need of assistance.

“As a District, we have received 600 x 50 kilograms bags of rice to be distributed to vulnerable households. The District Disaster Management Committee conducted a vulnerability assessment, and the beneficiaries were identified across the District,” Mr Chinyanga said.

The District Commissioner further disclosed that part of the rice consignment will be allocated to key institutions, including Kabompo District Hospital and Kambulamema Orphanage, to help cushion the shortage of food in these facilities.

He added that the government remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities and institutions through timely interventions to mitigate the impact of food shortages and other disaster-related challenges
