HEALTH EXPERTS URGE MEN TO UNDERGO BREAST CANCER SCREENING

The Ministry of Health has urged men to undergo breast cancer screening, warning that late presentation among male patients continues to hinder effective treatment and survival outcomes.

Cancer Diseases Hospital Consultant Clinical Oncologist George Pupwe explained that although breast cancer is commonly associated with women, men are also at risk and often seek medical attention only when the disease has reached advanced stages.

Dr. Pupwe attributed this to low awareness and misconceptions that breast cancer does not affect men.

“Breast cancer affects both women and men. Unfortunately, most men only seek medical attention when the disease is already advanced, making treatment more difficult,” Dr. Pupwe said.

Dr. Pupwe called for increased public awareness and routine screening among men, stressing that early detection significantly improves chances of successful treatment.
