GHANA, ZAMBIA DEEPEN BILATERAL TIES
Zambia and Ghana have called for deepening bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
Speaking during an engagement at State House in Lusaka, President Hichilema reiterated the need for the two countries to focus on scaling up economic ties.
ZANIS reports that President Hichilema says Zambia values the relationship that exists between the two countries.
He stated that the bilateral relations between Zambia and Ghana dates back during the liberation struggle where Ghana’s founding fathers Kwame Nkrumah and Kenneth Kaunda played a key role in shaping the two nations.
President Hichilema explained that there is a need to continue on the same path, started by the forefathers, by deepening and strengthening economic relations.
He stressed on the need to focus economic relations in the mining sector.
President Hichilema said he wants the agreed frameworks between the two countries to materialize for the betterment of the two peoples.
The Head of State said he is excited to see the business community in Ghana work more closely with the business community in Zambia for enhanced mutual benefits.
President Hichilema emphasised that Zambia is eager to learn from Ghana on how it handled the gold sector.
And Ghanaian President John Mahama thanked his counterpart for inviting him to Zambia.
Mr Mahama said Ghana and Zambia share historical relations that can be traced during the liberation struggle.
He stressed the need to build on the relationship established by the founding fathers Kenneth Kaunda and Kwame Nkrumah.
Mr Mahama explained that there is a need to forge close strong links of economic cooperation between Zambia and Ghana.
The Ghanaian President emphasized the need for both countries to strengthen bilateral ties across key sectors of the economy.
Mr Mahama said Ghana and Zambia have been dealing with similar economic challenges such as debt restructuring.
He indicated that both countries have been implementing reforms aimed at growing their economies.
Mr Mahama said Zambia and Ghana are on the same economic path, adding that both countries can do more by working together.
He cited mining and agriculture as some of the sectors the two countries can collaborate in.
Mr Mahama also urged both countries to build cardinal relations beyond political relations.
He pointed out that more focus must be directed towards forging strong economic cooperation, adding that enhanced relations between the two countries will make it easier for both countries to work closely in various key sectors.
