BUYZED COMMENDS MANUFACTURERS FOR REDUCING COMMODITY PRICES

BuyZed founder and Chief Executive Officer Evans Ngoma has welcomed the decision by some manufacturers to reduce prices of commodities.

Mr Ngoma says the move taken by the manufacturers to reduce the prices of commodities such as bread, meat and mealie meal is commendable.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, Mr Ngoma expressed optimism that the development will enable consumers to benefit from the economic gains achieved by the government.

He further noted that many consumers will be relieved from the pressure of high prices of goods and services.

The Buyzed Chief Executive Officer has since implored other manufacturers who have not yet reduced the prices of their commodity to follow suit.

Mr Ngoma has also encouraged the government to continue implementing measures that will further create a conducive environment for the manufacturing sector to produce goods and services at a lower cost.

He has further urged the public to support local manufacturing firms by purchasing locally produced goods and services, saying it is key in growing the local economy.

A Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) survey conducted in January 2026 has revealed that 76% of manufacturers have implemented some form of price adjustment in response to the changing economic landscape.

And, Mr Ngoma has praised the government for reducing the pump price of fuel.

He said the reduction of the cost of fuel is pleasing, as it will enable ordinary Zambians to feel the impact through reduced prices of bus fares.

Mr Ngoma complained that some local routes’ and long-distance routes’ bus fares had gone up for many people.

He said this resulted in many people preferring to hike, as the bus fares were too high.
