OVER 45,000 LEARNERS TARGETED IN CHINSALI SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM

Over 45, 000 learners are targeted to benefit from the School Feeding Program earmarked for implementation this year in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province.

Chinsali District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Kalale Katele disclosed the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in a telephone interview this morning.

Mr Katele said the School Feeding Program will be implemented in all the Primary Schools in the district from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade seven.

He added that once the programme was implemented, it would reduce absenteeism among learners and support their physical and mental development.

Mr Katele pointed out that the food for the program will be sourced locally from local farmers and Schools that have excess produced food from their production units.

“Despite the School Feeding Program already working in other districts, Chinsali district is among the districts such as Isoka in Muchinga that have been put on board on the program this year, 2026,” he said.

The DEBS further said the School Feeding Program has positively impacted a number of learners in schools where the program has been implemented in the Province and the country as a whole.

Mr Katele said once funding was received for the program, implementation would commence starting with sensitisation of key stakeholders, which include parents.

Mr Katele appealed to Parents in Chinsali district to support the feeding program by sending their children to School.

Meanwhile, the School Feeding Program has elated parents in the district.

Mercy Mulenga a parent from Kabuta area talked to by ZANIS said the move by the Government to feed the children while at school was commendable.

” The program will encourage us parents to send out children to School,” she said.

Another Parent Edward Chanda of Kazembo area said the School Feeding Program  was  a relief to parents as they do not have to worry about parking food for their children and those from vulnerable households will not be learning on empty stomachs.
