Isoka Town Council has embarked on the installation of traffic lights at the Mwaiseni Turn Off along the Great North Road at a cost of K850,811.39 from vehicle licensing under sector grant for 2025.
The move is aimed at enhancing road safety and improving traffic control in the district.
Speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), Isoka Town Council Public Relations Officer (PRO) Peter Sichali said the project was a response to increased traffic activity at the junction.
He explained that the area had previously recorded road traffic accidents, which the council seeks to reduce through the intervention.
“The Mwaiseni Turn Off is a very busy point along the Great North Road where vehicles turn into Isoka District, and this has necessitated the installation of traffic lights to properly control traffic movement,” Mr Sichali said.
“Because of the high traffic volume at this spot, there have been accidents in the past, but this development will help curb such occurrences and ensure the safety of road users,” he stated.
Mr Sichali described the project as part of the council’s broader development agenda, noting that Isoka District continued to experience significant infrastructural improvements.
“This is development, and as a local authority we remain committed to implementing projects that improve the quality of life for our people,” he highlighted.
He further cited the installation of streetlights across the town as one of the major projects already undertaken by the council.
“As you may have seen, Isoka now has streetlights, which is a clear indication that the district is steadily developing,” the PRO added.
Mr Sichali disclosed that the project has already commenced and will take three months to complete.
“Works have already started, and the project is expected to be completed in March 2026,” he noted.
He added that the works were being carried out by Josmag Enterprises Limited, which has been contracted to undertake the project.
