THE Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has urged Government to conclude the ongoing negotiations with public service unions for improved salaries and conditions of service for public service workers.
ZCTU Secretary General Joy Beene said public service workers deserve certainty and clarity on their pending salary adjustments.
Mr Beene, who said this in a speech read for him by ZCTU Deputy Secretary General ,Catherine Kantumoya, during a Training Workshop for District Union Chairpersons in Kabwe, disclosed that delays in the conclusion of the collective bargaining process between government and public service workers’ unions was undermining the morale, productivity, and trust of public service workers.
He also urged the workers to remain professional, disciplined and non-partisan ahead of this year’s general elections.
Mr Beene cautioned politicians against turning workplaces into campaign platforms as the country heads towards the August 13 elections.
“Government must urgently conclude this process. Public service workers deserve certainty. They deserve to know what their 2026 salary adjustments will be,” he said.
He noted that ZCTU will not relent in advocating for workers’ rights on industrial-related issues.
Mr Beene also urged the labour movement to put the interest of the workers first by using their positions to advocate for a decent work agenda.
Meanwhile, Funeral Services Group Zambia Limited (FSG) Chief Executive Officer Francis Musukusa stated that the organisation remained committed to working with ZCTU in the provision of professional funeral services and funeral insurance to the workers.
The training workshop was organised by ZCTU in collaboration with the Funeral Services Group Zambia Limited.
