Government has officially handed over the project site for the road rehabilitation project in Mbala District.
District Commissioner Jestus Sikazwe says the project involves road rehabilitation, construction of drainage systems, sidewalks and the installation of street lights on the Presidents Avenue Road in Mbala.
Mr Sikazwe said the project will be undertaken by Yelele Trading Company at a total cost of over K8.7 million.
He said the project is being financed under the 2024 and 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations.
ZANIS reports that Mr Sikazwe said this in a speech read on his behalf by Mbala District Administrative Officer Gilson Chanda during the handover of the site for the project to Yelele Trading Company Limited.
The District Commissioner has since challenged the contractor to expedite the works and strictly adhere to the project time frame.
He explained that the timely completion is critical to improving road infrastructure in the district.
Meanwhile, Mbala Town Clerk Laura Munkanta has urged contractors to deliver quality work and ensure value for money.
She stressed the importance of using public resources responsibly.
Ms Munkanta noted that the 2.5-kilometre President Avenue road project is strategically picked and will enhance the beautification of Mbala town and improve its outlook.
And Mbala Constituency CDF Committee Chairperson, Grant Schaefer, said the committee carefully selected a competent contractor capable of meeting government standards.
Pastor Schaefer added that the contractor has adequate financial capacity to carry out the works.
He has expressed confidence that the project will be completed to the expected quality in line with the President’s directive on infrastructure development.
