ECZ happy with mass voter registration exercise in Chongwe

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Commissioner, Ndiyoi Mutiti, is impressed with the way the mass voter registration exercise is progressing in Chongwe district.

Commissioner Mutiti, who led some ECZ officials to monitor the exercise in Chongwe district, appreciated the progress of the exercise saying the achievement is commendable.

She thanked the District Registration Officer, Damson Mukwato, for making efforts to ensure that all voter registration activities in the area are effectively implemented.

Ms Mutiti also visited the voter registration centres at the Civic Centre, Mphango, Silverest and Chongwe primary school.

Meanwhile, Mr Mukwato disclosed that 59,747 new voters, out of the target of 72,666 assigned by the ECZ, have since been registered in Chongwe district.

He disclosed that there has been a positive response from residents in the area following the 15 days extension of the voter registration exercise.

“The extension has resulted in a positive turnout by members of the public and I am confident that Chongwe district will surpass the target figure of 72,666 by the end of this period,” Mr Mukwato said.

He added that 14, 502 new registrations have been recorded in the area with 45,241 updates, bringing the total of registrations to 59,747 in the past seven phases.
