President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the people of Kapiri Mposhi that the recapitalization of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) will be actualized at a cost of US$1.6 billion once he is re-elected.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema says the United Party for National Development (UPND) government has already made significant progress towards the recapitalisation of TAZARA to improve its efficiency and operational capacity.<\/p>\n
Speaking when he addressed thousands of residents at TAZARA Station this afternoon, the Head of State also assured TAZARA employees that they would be re-employed under the recapitalised railway company.<\/p>\n
“Only those who want to be retired will go, otherwise everyone will be brought back on board,” President Hichilema said.<\/p>\n
The President further disclosed that the government has allocated US$65 million towards the establishment of a Dry Port in Kapiri Mposhi.<\/p>\n
He said the government also intends to transform the district into an economic hub through the development of the Dry Port and railway workshops, a move expected to create employment opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n
“We shall also address the long-standing challenges of access to water in Kapiri Mposhi,” he said.<\/p>\n
On road infrastructure, President Hichilema said township roads in Kapiri Mposhi have been earmarked for upgrading to bituminous standard under the rehabilitation of the 327-kilometre Ndola-Lusaka Road into a dual carriageway.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema highlighted several developmental milestones achieved by his administration, including infrastructure development under the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the enactment of free education into law, and the mass recruitment of public service workers.<\/p>\n
He appealed to the people of Kapiri Mposhi to re-elect him and vote for UPND parliamentary candidates for Kapiri East and Kapiri West constituencies, as well as local government candidates, to sustain the country’s development agenda.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mulungushi University Students Union President, David Banda, who addressed the public meeting, pledged support for President Hichilema’s candidature in the forthcoming presidential election.<\/p>\n
