{"id":4656,"date":"2026-06-14T19:29:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T17:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=4656"},"modified":"2026-06-14T19:29:21","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T17:29:21","slug":"apg-milling-depot-manager-jailed-four-years-for-stealing-k110-000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=4656","title":{"rendered":"APG MILLING DEPOT MANAGER\u00a0JAILED FOUR YEARS FOR STEALING K110, 000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>APG MILLING DEPOT MANAGER<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>JAILED FOUR YEARS FOR STEALING K110, 000 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A 38-year-old man of Matumbo Village in Shiwang\u2019andu District in Muchinga Province has been sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labour for theft by servant.<\/p>\n<p>Before Magistrate Chapson Silwimba was Stephen Chungulo, who was facing two counts of theft by servant contrary to Sections 278 and 272 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>This was in matter that came before the court for presentation of facts.<\/p>\n<p>Particulars of the offence were that on July 30, 2024, while in Kasama District, Chungulo, being a servant of APG Milling Limited, stole K110, 000 belonging to the company.<\/p>\n<p>In the second count, it was alleged that on August 6, 2024, in Kasama, Chungulo, while employed by APG Milling Limited, stole K60, 000 belonging to the company.<\/p>\n<p>During the presentation of facts, the court heard that on July 30, 2024, the accused, who worked as a Depot Manager for the company, was entrusted with K110, 000 to purchase white maize on behalf of APG Milling Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The court was informed that when the company\u2019s accountant followed up on the progress of the maize purchase, the accused could not be reached and his mobile phone was switched off.<\/p>\n<p>The accountant subsequently informed management about the development leading to the matter being reported to Kasama Central Police Station, and that the accused was later apprehended by police.<\/p>\n<p>The court further heard that on June 1, 2026, police interviewed the accused, who admitted to the offense in count one.<\/p>\n<p>It was said that no money has been recovered in relation to the offenses.<\/p>\n<p>In mitigation, Chungulo pleaded for leniency, stating that he had been suffering from severe headache during the period in question and that this influenced his actions.<\/p>\n<p>He further told the court that he did not know what had led to him to steal the money.<\/p>\n<p>The accused also informed the court that he was a first offender and the father of five children who depend on him for support.<\/p>\n<p>He pleaded with the court to be lenient saying his children would suffer if he was imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p>In passing sentence, Magistrate Silwimba said he had taken into account the mitigation advanced by the accused, including the fact that he was a first offender.<\/p>\n<p>The magistrate noted that the offense committed was a felony carrying a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>He further stated that he had considered the fact that the accused had five children, but observed that he should have considered their welfare before committing the offense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn exercising maximum leniency, I sentence you to four years imprisonment with hard labour effective June 1, 2026,\u201d Magistrate Silwimba said.<\/p>\n<p>The court further discharged the accused in count two after the state prosecutor made an application in the second count.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>APG MILLING DEPOT MANAGER\u00a0JAILED FOUR YEARS FOR STEALING K110, 000 \u00a0\u00a0 A 38-year-old man of Matumbo Village in Shiwang\u2019andu District in Muchinga Province has been sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labour for theft by servant.
