{"id":4641,"date":"2026-06-12T20:01:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T18:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=4641"},"modified":"2026-06-12T20:05:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T18:05:18","slug":"hichilema-hails-fqms-3-5-billion-boost-to-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=4641","title":{"rendered":"HICHILEMA HAILS FQM\u2019S $3.5 BILLION BOOST TO ECONOMY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Hakainde Hichilema has revealed that First Quantum Minerals contributed 3.5 billion United States dollars to the Zambian economy in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>He says this represents a 307 percent increase from its contribution in the year 2020, which was at 850 million US dollars in the year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>President Hichilema has explained that in the year 2020, the mine contributed 412 million U. S dollars in taxes which also increased to 912 million US dollars in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the mid-year Private Sector Day, in Lusaka, the Head of State has attributed this success to sector reforms introduced by government which have spurred private sector growth.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that private sector growth has contributed to job creation and treasury income, among other benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The President has since called on the private sector in the country to act as Auditors in order to ensure that positive reforms are maintained.<\/p>\n<p>He further called for intentional investments across Zambia\u2019s ten provinces to drive regional economies, highlighting ongoing projects such as Zesco\u2019s 50-megawatt solar initiative in Luapula Province.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to see investments in each of the 10 provinces of Zambia, intentionally. We want to see that. And you are the ones to make it happen, to drive regional economies. Not every young person has to migrate to Lusaka for opportunities&#8221;, he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>And President Hichilema has assured the private sector that government will engage experts to expedite the implementation of digital identities.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that one of government&#8217;s key priorities is to accelerate the digital agenda for both the public and private sectors noting that the digital I. D is an instrument that has the potential to revolutionarise the Country&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Manufacturing Technical Working Group Co-Chairperson Muhammad Umar revealed that about 25 000 new jobs were created following government &#8211; led private sector reforms, among other developments in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>And in a vote of thanks, Tourism Sector Technical Working Group Co-Chairperson Glyden Mungaila pledged to sustain reforms and partnerships that are boosting economic growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Hakainde Hichilema has revealed that First Quantum Minerals contributed 3.5 billion United States dollars to the Zambian economy in 2025.
