President Hakainde Hichilema has called on students from higher learning institutions to safeguard their future and the economic gains the country has recorded in the last five years by voting for the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) at all levels in this year’s elections.<\/p>\n
Speaking when he addressed students at Mulungushi University in Kapiri Mposhi District today, President Hichilema said the sound education policies can only be sustained if they vote for continuity.<\/p>\n
The Head of State said he will ensure continued implementation of free education, meal allowances, students’ loans and bursaries if re-elected in the August 13 general elections.<\/p>\n
“We are in an election year and you know what is needed to be done if you want free education, meal allowances, students’ loans and bursaries to continue. You should vote for Bally and all UPND candidates,” President Hichilema said.<\/p>\n
He said the opposition has nothing to offer as government has managed to restructure the debt and restore order in national governance.<\/p>\n
“We have a lot of work to do if re-elected. Those who took away your meal allowances and destroyed the economy want to come back to do the same. We found a debt mountain which we have managed to dismantle,” he said.<\/p>\n
He said government was currently saving US$1.4 billion annually after restructuring the debt instead of US$2.3 billion.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema urged the students in higher learning institutions and Zambians in general to turn out in numbers to vote for him for presidency and all UPND candidates in this year’s elections.<\/p>\n
He assured the students that government will continue addressing accommodation and other challenges in higher institutions through completion and construction of more hostels.<\/p>\n
And Mulungushi University Student Union president David Banda said Zambia was in the right hands under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.<\/p>\n
Mr Banda said the student populace will rally behind his candidature for continued implementation of sound education policies for the benefit of future generations.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mr Banda implored government to improve water and sanitation challenges at the institution and construct a foot bridge across the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway to safeguard lives from fatalities.<\/p>\n
