The Zambia Chamber of Mines has commended Mopani Copper Mines\u00a0PLC\u00a0and\u00a0Konkola\u00a0Copper Mines\u00a0(KCM)\u00a0for securing\u00a0four out of the available 21 trophies at\u00a0the just ended\u00a014th International Mines Rescue Competition (IMRC) 2026\u00a0Zambia.<\/p>\n
Mopani\u2019s Mufulira Mine Rescue team won the second overall best award after Coal\u00a0India Limited who were the overall winners of the IMRC 2026 Zambia, while\u00a0Canada\u2019s Glencore Kidd\u00a0Mine secured third position.<\/p>\n
The Mopani Mufulira Mine\u00a0Rescue team also scooped\u00a0second best positions in\u00a0both\u00a0the technician skills\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0rope rescue skills\u00a0categories while KCM was awarded third position in the\u00a0first aid competition category, bringing the total number of awards won by\u00a0Zambian mine rescue teams to four.<\/p>\n
Zambia Chamber of Mines, Chief Executive Officer, Sokwani Chilembo said the awards\u00a0reflect\u00a0the\u00a0country\u2019s growing capacity to\u00a0compete at the highest international standards in mine safety,\u00a0emergency\u00a0preparedness\u00a0and rescue\u00a0operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very proud of the achievements of\u00a0both Mopani and KCM in the 2026 IMRC Zambia. It\u2019s a major milestone for our\u00a0country and indeed our mining industry as it is the first time that an African mine\u00a0rescue team has emerged second overall best in the history of the competition.<\/p>\n
