Acting Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Charles Milupi, has dismissed allegations that the government has abandoned the implementation of capital projects in favour of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).<\/p>\n
This was after Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu, alleged that the State is concentrating on \u2018minor\u2019 projects and left out implementing major capital projects dotted around the country.<\/p>\n
Mr Milupi said the government remains committed to undertaking major infrastructure projects while also utilizing the CDF to promote development at community level.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not true that the government has abandoned capital projects. There are many projects that the government is undertaking, but it also understands that CDF is government money that must benefit our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Minister explained that some projects being implemented under government programmes are large-scale and costly, citing the Luanginga bridge project in Western Province valued at over K800 million, equivalent to about U$D40 million as well as construction of the new Luangwa Bridge in Lusaka Province at a cost of\u00a0US$75.5 million, aimed at increasing traffic capacity in the Nacala Corridor to facilitate the distribution of goods and movement of passengers<\/p>\n
Mr Milupi was delivering a closing statement in Parliament yesterday, on the Report of the Committee on Local Government Accounts on the Report of the Auditor General on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the financial year ended December 31, 2024.<\/p>\n
