<\/p>\nPresident Hakainde Hichilema has officially commissioned the Lwanginga Bridge in Kalabo District of Western Province, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure across the region.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, President Hichilema assured the people of Kalabo that the government remains resolute in addressing infrastructure challenges that have for many years hindered development and economic growth in the area.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema recalled that during the campaign period, the United Party for National Development (UPND) pledged to construct the Lwanginga Bridge in response to the difficulties faced by the local people in crossing the Lwanginga River.<\/p>\n

He noted that for a long time, residents depended on a pontoon to cross the river, which was not only inefficient but also unreliable, especially when transporting heavy goods and equipment.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema added that the newly constructed bridge is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises and improving the livelihoods of the people in Western Province.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe acknowledged that the completion of this bridge signifies progress and development. It will enhance connectivity, ease the movement of goods and services, and open up Kalabo District to more economic opportunities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Hichilema further disclosed that the government has lined up more developmental projects aimed at transforming the province, including the planned upgrading of the Kalabo\/Sikongo Road via Angola, which is expected to facilitate cross-border trade and strengthen regional integration.<\/p>\n
President Hichilema emphasised that improved road infrastructure is key to unlocking economic potential, particularly in rural areas where access to markets has remained a major challenge.<\/p>\n
Speaking earlier, Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, said the Lwanginga Bridge will significantly improve transportation and contribute to economic growth in the region.<\/p>\n

Dr Musokotwane, stated that the bridge will not only ease the movement of goods and services but also attract investment in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and trade.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe construction of this bridge is therefore not only an economic milestone but also a life-saving intervention that will protect communities and ensure safer travel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
