{"id":3792,"date":"2026-04-24T16:52:53","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3792"},"modified":"2026-04-24T16:58:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T13:58:10","slug":"president-hichilema-commissions-mabumba-solar-plant-in-mansa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3792","title":{"rendered":"PRESIDENT HICHILEMA COMMISSIONS MABUMBA SOLAR PLANT IN MANSA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Hakainde Hichilema says his administration has boosted electricity supply in Luapula Province to drive\u00a0development and attract increased investment to the region.<\/p>\n<p>President Hichilema notes that without enough power, it could be difficult to develop the province.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of State has further observed that insufficient power supply to Luapula remains a hindrance to the region\u2019s development, despite the area boasting of vast resources.<\/p>\n<p>ZANIS reports that the President has since indicated that his administration intends to further expand power supply in Luapula Province with the Mansa Solar Plant, which is expected to stimulate economic activity in the region.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking in Mansa today when he commissioned the 50-megawatt Mabumba Solar Power Plant.<\/p>\n<p>President Hichilema noted that the current Investment Exposition in Luapula and other investment efforts, could have had little impact without improvements to the region\u2019s energy supply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll these investors who have come in the province need power for them to be able to do their businesses, hence, the coming of the 50 MegaWatts will enable these investors to do business,&#8221; President Hichilema stated.<\/p>\n<p>The President assured that his government will continue implementing policies to strengthen provincial economies, ensuring all provinces contribute to the country&#8217;s gross domestic product (GDP).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the President has commended Chief Mabumba for providing land for the construction of the solar power plant.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hichilema pointed out that government and traditional leaders are partners and not competitors; hence, they need to work together at all times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have all seen what unity can bring here in Mabumba chiefdom, hence, I\u2019m calling all traditional leaders in the country to be willing to give out land for various developments that the government wants to implement,&#8221; President Hichilema said.<\/p>\n<p>He has also called on the people of Luapula to continue supporting government as it continues to develop the country.<\/p>\n<p>And Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, says the country had largely depended on hydropower for decades and stated that the UPND administration has endeavoured to facilitate diversified sources of power, such as solar.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Chikote disclosed that within the four years of being in government, the UPND has managed to put up various solar plants dotted across the country to boost the energy availability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis President you are seeing here is very passionate about energy, as he knows that energy is what will unlock other sectors, hence, he has invested heavily in these areas,&#8221; Mr Chikote said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Chief Mabumba who spoke through his representative, Sharpe Kasongo, has thanked government for putting up a solar plant in Luapula.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Mabumba observed that with more power in the province, more economic activities will now take place, thereby creating jobs for the youths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue of power has been a thorny issue for us, but now we are happy that it has been addressed and more investments will now come to Luapula,&#8221; chief Mabumba said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Hakainde Hichilema says his administration has boosted electricity supply in Luapula Province to drive\u00a0development and attract increased investment to the region.
