{"id":3645,"date":"2026-04-17T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3645"},"modified":"2026-04-17T08:29:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T06:29:40","slug":"hrc-concerned-with-continued-underpayment-of-domestic-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3645","title":{"rendered":"HRC CONCERNED WITH CONTINUED UNDERPAYMENT OF DOMESTIC WORKERS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">HUMAN Rights Commission Chairperson Pamela Sambo has raised concern over the continued underpayment of domestic workers, security guards, and general workers, despite clear minimum wage laws being put in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Ms Sambo said the trend was among the most disturbing patterns observed during the Commission\u2019s cases review meeting held from 14 to 15 April 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cThe cases reviewed reveal a clear and concerning pattern of human rights violations and abuses that requires urgent national attention,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ms Sambo disclosed that out of 100 cases reviewed, 82 were successfully resolved through mediation, redress, or corrective action by relevant institutions and remaining 18 cases still under active investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ms Sambo singled out the systemic underpayment of workers as a major concern, noting that domestic workers, security guards, and general workers remain among the most vulnerable despite forming a critical part of Zambia\u2019s labour force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cDespite the existence of legislation prescribing minimum wages for domestic and general workers, many employers continue to pay wages far below the legally established thresholds,\u201d she added.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HUMAN Rights Commission Chairperson Pamela Sambo has raised concern over the continued underpayment of domestic workers, security guards, and general workers, despite clear minimum wage laws being put in place.
