{"id":3627,"date":"2026-04-16T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3627"},"modified":"2026-04-16T19:35:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T17:35:13","slug":"znwl-trains-500-women-for-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3627","title":{"rendered":"ZNWL TRAINS 500 WOMEN FOR ELECTIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">THE Zambia National Women\u2019s Lobby (ZNWL) Acting Executive Director, Golden Nachibinga, said the organisation is training 500 women aspiring to contest the 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He has however expressed concern that political parties may use reserved seats as an excuse to avoid adopting women in constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mr Nachibinga says ZNWL has introduced contestants for Member of Parliament, mayor, council chairperson, and councillor positions across all provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOut of the 500 women in our database, about 50 are targeting parliamentary seats while the majority are going for local government positions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">He noted that despite the 2025 Constitution introducing 20 proportional representation seats reserved for women, many aspirants still face barriers to contesting in constituencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOur fear is that political parties will tell women to wait for PR seats instead of supporting them to win constituency elections,\u201d she said.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Zambia National Women\u2019s Lobby (ZNWL) Acting Executive Director, Golden Nachibinga, said the organisation is training 500 women aspiring to contest the 2026 general elections.
