PARENTS of children benefiting from the Keeping Girls in School (KGS) project in Solwezi District have been urged to support their children in utilising the opportunity by prioritising education and improving academic performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Solwezi District Education Board Secretary Webby Kasangula said the initiative was designed to enhance access to education and secure the future of the girl child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS Mr Kasangula emphasised that the grants disbursed under the programme were strictly meant for educational purposes such as purchasing school requirements and not for household consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Government through the Ministry of Education has put in place this initiative to remove any excuse for keeping a girl child away from school and the issue of lack of resources no longer holds water because the girl child is catered for,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Kasangula further urged beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and use education as a tool to uplift their families and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that with complementary interventions such as the free education policy and the school feeding programme girls in Solwezi now had a greater opportunity to succeed academically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
