{"id":3479,"date":"2026-04-13T20:15:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3479"},"modified":"2026-04-13T19:31:31","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T17:31:31","slug":"14-year-old-chipata-girl-rescued-from-early-marriage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3479","title":{"rendered":"14-YEAR-OLD CHIPATA GIRL RESCUED FROM EARLY MARRIAGE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">A 14-year-old girl has been retrieved from an early marriage in Chipata District of Eastern Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The girl who had eloped with his 22-year-old boyfriend, was about two months pregnant before suffering a miscarriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, she indicated that before eloping, she dropped out of school, while in grade four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&#8220;My brother used to beat me up for no reason, he would shout at me and never wanted my friends to visit me at home,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The survivor disclosed that she used to be called names like \u201ca prostitute\u201d which used to hurt me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Eastern Province Gender Officer, Warren Maimbolwa expressed concern that early marriages and teen pregnancies had continued to rise in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, Olipa Banda, a Psycho-social Counsellor, said it was important for children who underwent abuse or were victims of Gender-Based-Violence like early marriages, to access counselling services.   <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 14-year-old girl has been retrieved from an early marriage in Chipata District of Eastern Province.
