{"id":3169,"date":"2026-03-19T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3169"},"modified":"2026-03-19T10:13:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T08:13:33","slug":"makeshift-bridge-collapses-in-isoka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=3169","title":{"rendered":"MAKESHIFT BRIDGE COLLAPSES IN ISOKA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">KASYEMA Village in Kantenshya Ward of Isoka District in Muchinga Province has been cut off from critical services after a makeshift bridge linking the area to Kapililonga Ward was washed away by heavy rains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The development has disrupted access to education, healthcare and economic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Speaking in an interview in Kasyema, Amon Sichinga a community member said the situation has made it difficult for children to attend school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe are suffering because the children from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade 7 have to cross to the other side to attend school. It is now very difficult for them to access education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Another resident, Doreen Nankonde, said the situation poses serious risks to vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women who are unable to cross the flooded area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cWe are seeking assistance because we don\u2019t want to lose lives over such situations,\u201d she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Meanwhile, Isoka District Commissioner Jairos Simbeye&nbsp;said that the matter has since been escalated to relevant authorities, with the district awaiting guidance from Isoka Town Council to facilitate permanent restoration of the bridge.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KASYEMA Village in Kantenshya Ward of Isoka District in Muchinga Province has been cut off from critical services after a makeshift bridge linking the area to Kapililonga Ward was washed away by heavy rains.
