THE European Union and the German Government have committed 1.9 million Euros to a three-year programme that will be implemented in Southern African Development Community (SADC) TransFrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA’s) in Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2027 will be implemented by the Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) in Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DAPP Resource Mobilisation Specialist, Mumo Matandala, explained that Transfrontier Conservation Areas are places that border two or more countries such as Luangwa District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Matandala said Luangwa and Rufunsa were among the selected districts to benefit from the programme aimed at addressing human animal conflict and climate change interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was speaking when he visited the district to conduct consultations on the best solutions to the human- animal conflicts and challenges of climate change being experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe European Union has contributed 950,000 Euros while a matching grant of 950, 000 Euros is coming from the German Government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luangwa District Commissioner, Luke Chikani suggested that the programme looks into the issue of promoting goat rearing as an alternative livelihood for the locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
