{"id":298,"date":"2025-06-13T15:15:23","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T15:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.grz.gov.zm\/zanis\/?p=298"},"modified":"2025-06-13T15:15:23","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T15:15:23","slug":"zambians-diplomats-hail-lungu-as-champion-of-democracy-and-social-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=298","title":{"rendered":"Zambians, Diplomats hail Lungu as champion of democracy and social justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lusaka, June 11, 2025, ZANIS &#8212;\u00a0<\/strong>Citizens and diplomats accredited to Zambia have paid glowing tribute to the late sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu, describing him as a champion of democracy, peace and social justice.<\/p>\n<p>British High Commissioner to Zambia, Rebecca Terzeon, praised President Lungu\u2019s contributions to the country and reaffirmed the United Kingdom\u2019s support to the Zambian people during the national mourning period.<\/p>\n<p>And Chosen Generation Ministry Bishop, Simon Mayeba, encouraged mourners to celebrate the late President\u2019s life and reflect on the positive impact he made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a peaceful man who worked tirelessly for the nation,\u201d Bishop Mayeba said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Democratic National Party (DNP) President, Sydney Chiyaba, described Dr. Lungu as \u2018a man of the people\u2019 who championed equal opportunities and worked for the betterment of all Zambians.<\/p>\n<p>ZANIS reports that<\/p>\n<p>Lusaka resident Bartholomew Mumba remembered the late President for his transformative infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be remembered for the roads, bridges, and buildings he constructed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Another resident, Veldrine Kapesha, praised Lungu\u2019s jovial character and emphasized the importance of unity during the mourning period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunerals are a time for reconciliation, not for throwing jabs at each other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Timothy Chansa, also from Lusaka, described Dr. Lungu as a true democrat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe stood for the principles of democracy and promoted the rule of law,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lusaka, June 11, 2025, ZANIS &#8212;\u00a0Citizens and diplomats accredited to Zambia have paid glowing tribute to the late sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu, describing him as a champion of democracy, peace and social justice.
