NDOLA BLOCK- MAKING COMPANIES WARNED OVER POOR CONDITIONS<\/p>\n
Copperbelt Assistant Labour Commissioner has warned companies in Ndola to desist from subjecting workers to a poor working environment.<\/p>\n
\u200eMs Eunice Mifima sounded the warning when she uncovered several labour and public health irregularities in block-making companies in Ndola following an inspection conducted.<\/p>\n
\u200e\u200eDuring the exercise, several companies were found with various irregularities, including failure to produce employment contracts, lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), poor kitchen and sanitation facilities.<\/p>\n
Other breaches included non-compliance in remitting statutory contributions such as National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA).<\/p>\n
\u200eShe also directed that all regular employees should be paid through bank accounts for proper record keeping, promoting a culture of saving, and placing all regular workers on formal contracts.<\/p>\n
\u200eMr Musonda pointed out that a conducive working environment motivates employees to perform better and urged all companies to improve standards related to public health and employee welfare.<\/p>\n
\u200eAnd Emreonur Investment Limited,one of the companies visited Managing Director Onur Usturaone , said the company will address the issues raised and appealed for workers to be sensitized on the importance of employment contracts and to refrain from selling their PPE after being provided with it.<\/p>\n
