{"id":2871,"date":"2026-03-03T12:08:53","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T10:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=2871"},"modified":"2026-03-03T12:08:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T10:08:53","slug":"zcs-backs-government-food-security-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=2871","title":{"rendered":"ZCS BACKS GOVERNMENT FOOD SECURITY DRIVE."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zambia Correctional Service Commission Chairperson Evaristo Kalonga says the Service remains committed to supporting President Hakainde Hichilema\u2019s vision of strengthening national food security through expanded agricultural production.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kalonga said the Correctional Service continues to play a key role in food production across the country, noting that Northern Province alone has cultivated 181 hectares of maize for the 2026\/2027 farming season.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kalonga said that all correctional facilities in the province are food self\u2011sufficient due to consistent annual maize production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you may be aware, all correctional facilities in the province feed themselves; they do not buy mealie meal because of the production that is taking place,\u201d Mr Kalonga said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the Service\u2019s productivity is also contributing to stabilising the economy, citing its role in helping reduce inflation from 22 percent in 2021 to 7.5 percent in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>And Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu acknowledged the Service\u2019s efforts but highlighted challenges such as dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate staff accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zambia Correctional Service Commission Chairperson Evaristo Kalonga says the Service remains committed to supporting President Hakainde Hichilema\u2019s vision of strengthening national food security through expanded agricultural production.
