{"id":285,"date":"2025-06-13T15:07:04","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T15:07:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.grz.gov.zm\/zanis\/?p=285"},"modified":"2025-06-13T15:08:38","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T15:08:38","slug":"nhima-ecobank-launch-smart-pay-platform-to-expand-health-coverage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanis.gov.zm\/?p=285","title":{"rendered":"NHIMA, Ecobank launch Smart Pay platform to expand health coverage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lusaka, June 11, 2025, ZANIS<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) has launched a smart payment platform in partnership with Ecobank, aimed at improving access to health insurance for more Zambians, especially those in the informal sector.<\/p>\n<p>NHIMA Director General Michael Njapau said the platform aligns with the authority\u2019s 2023\u20132026 strategic plan, which seeks to simplify processes for scheme members, particularly in payment procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the launch in Lusaka, Mr Njapau described the collaboration with Ecobank as a reaffirmation of NHIMA\u2019s commitment to efficient service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis platform is a key tool to help drive the universal health coverage agenda and support a more inclusive digital future for health service delivery,\u201d Mr Njapau said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that under the National Health Insurance Act No. 2 of 2018, every Zambian citizen and established resident is required to register and contribute based on their income level and ability.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Njapau noted that the new smart payment platform offers a reliable, convenient, and secure method for contributions to the National Health Insurance Fund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process enables more employers to submit returns and pay contributions with ease, which strengthens the overall collection system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the platform is designed to eliminate geographic and logistical barriers, increase transparency, and enhance financial accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will also promote timely contributions and reduce defaults, which is critical for the sustainability of the national health insurance scheme,\u201d Mr. Njapau emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>MR Njapau reaffirmed NHIMA\u2019s commitment to ensuring that all eligible Zambians have access to quality healthcare regardless of their economic status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo achieve this, we must innovate, streamline our systems, and build partnerships that bring real value to our members and the health sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ecobank Zambia Managing Director Aina Moore hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in advancing accessible and efficient healthcare financing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Ecobank, we believe in innovation, inclusion, and empowerment.
