Muombo Village in Chief Chitimukulu’s Chiefdom in Chambeshi area, Mungwi District, is experiencing flash floods following heavy rainfall that the area has recently received.<\/p>\n
Abraham Mutale, a resident of Muombo, has confirmed the flooding to ZANIS in a telephone interview.<\/p>\n
He explained that the floods have washed away the community bridge on the Mfishe River.<\/p>\n
Mr Mutale said the bridge was cardinal as it connects Muombo and Chilombwa villages.<\/p>\n
He said the damage to the bridge has negatively affected the delivery of education and health services in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cPupils and teachers from Chilombwa are unable to cross to the other side where the school is located,\u201d Mr. Mutale said.<\/p>\n
He added that residents of Muombo are also unable to access health services due to the damaged bridge.<\/p>\n
Mr Mutale further disclosed that a boat donated to the community in 2019 has been damaged.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appeal to the government to assist us with another boat as we await the construction of a permanent bridge to safeguard lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mr \u00a0Mutale noted that cassava fields have been submerged in water, raising fears of hunger in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are appealing to the government to quickly come to our aid following the submerging of our cassava fields,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also revealed that one house has collapsed after being swept away by the floods, leaving a family homeless.<\/p>\n
